Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense said on February 19 that the country’s armed forces destroyed two Russian fighter aircraft, including a Su-34 and a Su-35S.

`Russian planes continue to fall! This morning, the sky protection force shot down two Russian planes in the east, including a Su-34 bomber and a Su-35 fighter. In 3 days, Ukraine has

The above statement was made after the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, said Ukraine destroyed four Russian military aircraft over the weekend.

`Units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed three enemy aircraft at the same time, including two Su-34 fighter-bombers and one Su-35 fighter`,

He said Ukrainian forces shot down another Russian Su-34 bomber on the morning of February 18.

A video circulating on social networks on the morning of February 19 appears to show the moment one of the Russian fighter jets was shot down.

`Russian helicopters are flying over the sea and are said to be searching for the crew of the (downed) plane,` Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, wrote on social network X.

Kyiv Post quoted Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yurii Ihnat as saying that Russian forces are using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to hunt down the weapons system that Ukraine used to shoot down Russian Su-34 aircraft.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the above information.

Ukraine did not reveal what weapon system it used to shoot down Russian planes.

The Patriot PAC-2 missile has a range of up to hundreds of kilometers in the best conditions, becoming Ukraine’s longest-range air defense missile.

In an update on the war situation on February 19, the Ukrainian military said that Moscow has so far lost 336 aircraft since the conflict began in February 2022.

Last month, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army said Kiev forces shot down a Russian Su-34 plane over the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine.

At the end of December, Ukraine announced the destruction of three more Russian aircraft in a single day over the Kherson region of southern Ukraine.

The British Ministry of Defense said in January that the recent series of losses showed that Russia was no longer able to gain air superiority over Ukraine.

The Su-34 is said to be the best fighter bomber of the Russian air force, with a combination of sensors and smart weapons, allowing it to detect and attack unexpected targets in close range.

In a November 2022 study for the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London, researchers Justin Bronk, Nick Reynolds and Jack Watling noted that the Russian air force `certainly wants to
