(Dan Tri) – Princess Mako, the first granddaughter of Emperor Akihito and the eldest daughter of Prince Akishino, is about to get engaged to her university friend, NHK reported today, May 16.

According to NHK, Princess Mako of the Japanese royal family will be engaged to Kei Komuro, 25 years old, from Yokohama city, near Tokyo.
Princess Mako met Komuro five years ago through a friend at International Catholic University, where the princess studied.
Princess Mako began studying at the Faculty of Arts, majoring in cultural heritage and art at International Catholic University in April 2010.
After returning to Japan, Princess Mako served as honorary president of several associations, including the Japan Tennis Association.
Meanwhile, Princess Mako’s fiancĂ© is currently working for a law firm.

The Japanese Royal Family is expected to announce official information about Princess Mako’s engagement after the couple completes preparations for this important event.
Princess Mako’s father, Prince Akishino, is the second son of Emperor Akihito.
Thus, after Princess Mako’s wedding, the total number of members of the Japanese royal family will be reduced to 18 people and the number of female members will be only 13 people.
