In modern times, sending people into space and even burying them in space is no longer impossible.
The astronomer has a burning passion for the Moon
Eugene Shoemaker is one of the great minds of the 20th century. Born in 1928 in America, he spent his whole life researching astronomy and space.
Eugene Shoemaker is a great astronomer of the world
With his profound knowledge of geology, Eugene Shoemaker made a series of studies that made a major impact on understanding the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Shoemaker has had a strong passion for the Moon – Earth’s satellite planet since his youth.
But unfortunately, in the end, Shoemaker could not fulfill this wish because he suffered from Addison’s disease (adrenal insufficiency).

The first and only person buried on the Moon
Unable to achieve his dream, Eugene Shoemaker still did his best to send others to the Moon.
While still contributing to astronomy, the great scientist suddenly passed away at the age of 69 while working.
But Eugene Shoemaker’s space adventure didn’t end there.
On January 6, 1998, NASA sent the Lunar Prospector probe to the Moon’s south pole with 28 grams of Shoemaker’s ashes.
After 1 year of completing the research mission, the probe was controlled to crash near the south pole, meaning a part of Shoemaker also remained on this small planet forever.
`Every time I look at the Moon, I will always know Eugene is there,` shared Carolyn Shoemaker, the astronomer’s wife.
In his homeland Earth, since then, his memorial stone has also been written with an additional line: `Live once, buried twice.`
