After taking office on October 4, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida had specific policies and directions for the country’s future in the coming time.

Determined to bring the country out of the Covid-19 pandemic

`I am determined to devote my best to overcome the national crisis with the people, create a new era and pass on to the next generation a strong and prosperous country,` Prime Minister Kishida said in his speech.

Prime Minister Kishida said the government will quickly introduce a stimulus package to support those severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and take legislative steps to ensure medical resources.

Mr. Kishida did not specify the size of the stimulus package in his speech, but last month he proposed a sum of 30 trillion yen ($268 billion) to support social security.

Prime Minister Kishida emphasized the need to support those in need, and he called for cash payments to companies hit hard by the pandemic to restore production.

He also pledged to support irregular workers, families with children and those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

Previously, Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said he hoped there would be an additional budget to finance economic stimulus immediately after the election and would be approved by the National Assembly by the end of this year.

The new Japanese Prime Minister reiterated his determination to overcome inflation and said he would push ahead with monetary policy easing, fiscal spending and a focused growth strategy.

Protecting the peace and stability of Japan

Regarding national security and foreign affairs, Prime Minister Kishida said he will protect Japan’s peace and stability.

`With the security environment around the country becoming more and more difficult, I will resolutely protect the territory, territorial waters, air space and people’s lives and property,` he told the National Assembly.

As Japan faces China’s rapid military buildup and maritime expansion, as well as threats from North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs, Prime Minister Kishida said.

Regarding relations with neighboring countries like China, Mr. Kishida said that building stable relations and maintaining dialogue is important, but Japan will not hesitate to openly criticize when necessary.

China unilaterally claims most of the South China Sea, where it has established military outposts on artificial islands.

`While working with countries with which we share common values, we say what needs to be said to China and firmly demand that it behave responsibly. We also maintain dialogue

Mr. Kishida called Japan’s security alliance with the US `the foundation of world peace and prosperity`.
