Ogre: Mythical beast, prototype of Shrek

In this verse, it is believed that Ogres are goblins who lived in ancient England (Logres is said to be King Arthur’s kingdom).

Although there is no folk legend as to where these monsters come from, many theories have shown that they seem to have a very close connection to both giants and mythical cannibals.

APPEARANCE

When mentioning Ogre, people can immediately imagine some of their outward characteristics.

In addition to possessing a special body, Ogres also have a lot of fur – a feature that makes them scary and more animal-like.

Ogres are famous for their terrible hunger for human flesh.

The Nephilim are a race of giants mentioned in the Bible.

The Nephilim’s massive appearance is considered more or less related to or inspired by Ogre stories.

In contrast to Ogre, Orcus is a god in Etruscan culture (an ancient civilization in Italy), described as having a strong craving for human flesh and governing the underworld (similar to Hades and Pluto).

OG – THE LAST GIANT IN JEWISH LEGEND

Ogre: Mythical beast, prototype of Shrek

Although Orcus is considered the inspiration for the name Ogre, there are still people who think that Og – the last giant in the Bible – is the origin of the name Ogre.

The legend of Og appears in Jewish legend and is recorded in the Book of Deuteronomy, Numbers and the Psalms.

There are no documents mentioning Og cannibalism, but Og’s brutal, bloody domination was probably told in a `three-star-lost` way and caused Og to be considered related to Ogre.

OIAGROS – GREEK MYTH

Not much is known about Oiagros (also known as Oeagrus) other than that Oiagros was a river god and that along with Calliope gave birth to Orpheus and Linus.

ORCO IN ITALIAN MYTH

In Italian, `orco` appears to be a variant of the name Ogre.

ONI IN JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY

Oni are another breed of monster that has surprising similarities to the British Ogre.
